Computer Literacy
In Computer Literacy you will be working with many aspects of technology. You will be working with software, or programs used to develop a product. Computer peripherals (scanners, digital cameras, printers) will be used to make these products top notch. Practice with a keyboarding program will allow you to work accurately when entering data into a computer. The class subjects (Math, Reading, Science and Social Studies) will be connected with technology and will include Internet Research technique and style.
Emerging Technology
Emerging Technology is a more advanced class than Computer Literacy. You will be working with many aspects of technology that will add to your computer training. You will be working with software, or programs used to develop a product. Computer peripherals (scanners, digital cameras, printers) will be used to make these products top notch. Practice with a keyboarding program will allow you to work accurately when entering data into a computer. The class subjects (Math, Reading, Science and Social Studies) will be connected with technology and will include Internet Research technique and style.
When working with computers it is important to use the right tool for the job. A computer program is a tool that is designed to help you perform a certain task. Using the right type of program for the job you need to do will help you perform the task most efficiently.
There are four main types of software programs that are used to complete jobs. We will be studying these programs and creating projects with these tools:
Word Processors are designed to be used with words. If you want to write a letter, a report, or even a book, this is the best type of program to use. Most word processors allow you to edit, copy, move, and delete text. Some even check your spelling and grammar!
Drawing Programs and graphics programs allow you to create pictures on the computer. Most drawing programs require the use of mouse.
Spreadsheets are designed to be used with numbers. If you need to perform mathematical calculations, create graphs, or do accounting, a spreadsheet is the type of program to use.
Databases are used for organizing, storing, and retrieving large amounts of information. A database is like a filing cabinet with an unlimited amount of drawers and file folders.
