Department Goal
To increase the students knowledge in the areas of heart risk factors, cardiovascular health, leisure activities, lifetime activities, good sportsmanship, rewards of good health, wellness and safety practices.
Department Highlights
Students in Health Fitness are participating in activities designed to improve their cardiovascular fitness. The students use heart monitors to measure their target heart rate, and are taught how to calculate their resting heart rate.
Students in Health Fitness are using pedometers to keep track of their steps, with a daily goal of 10,000 steps.
6th grade students in Health Fitness are being taught skills that can be used in athletic competition in the coming years and also can be used to continue lifelong activities.
7th and 8th grade students are being taught skills that will enable them to continue leisure and lifelong activities.
Students in all grades participate in a Wellness curriculum. This program is designed to give students the knowledge they need to lead a healthy life. Topics include, nutrition, hygiene and heart risk factors.
